Bob Baker Marionette Show at the Santa Monica Pier

Published on December 4, 2019

Bob Baker’s Marionettes have entertained children all over the world for over 50 years. Come sing-along with these imaginative performers at the Carousel on the SM Pier

The Bob Baker Marionettes have been a cultural institution in LA for over 50 years. Last year, as their decades-old theatre was being moved to downtown, the Marionettes visited the Carousel on the Santa Monica Pier. This show was so-loved by the children in Santa Monica that they are scheduled to return for 6 shows this December.

These suspended puppets are the passion of the late Bob Baker who began as a puppeteer and toy maker in his teens. Baker’s company provided creative projects across Los Angeles, from puppetry and design on Disneyland’s Main Street, to countless contributions in film and television. Baker and partner, Alton Wood, turned a scenic shop in downtown LA into a family entertainment institution: The Bob Baker Marionette Theater. The Bob Baker Marionettes have performed around the globe (even on Navy ships and submarines!), with an inventory of nearly three thousand puppets.

At the Santa Monica Pier, the Marionettes will be leading a holiday sing along for kids of all ages. Come see these world-renowned performers for free this December. More information about the performance can be found on https://santamonicapier.org/cheeronthepier/.
