Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier will present the West Coast’s biggest countdown to 2022 on New Year’s Eve.

Countdown to the new year viewing gigantic, 90-foot high, illuminated numerals animated on the world-famous Pacific Wheel on the Santa Monica Pier this New Year’s Eve. The Pier boardwalk will be closed to guests at 10 PM, but for those celebrating on West Coast time, you can stream the event on Pacific Park’s YouTube page, or see the live stream at pacpark.com/live.

Livestream Begins at 11:30 PM PST

The Largest New Year’s Eve Countdown in Los Angeles

Pacific Park will once again produce a bright and fun light program on the Pacific Wheel towering over the beach 130 feet below. The lights will run all night, and the special New Year’s Eve programing will start around 11:30 PM with fun designs and messages. At 11:59 PM giant numbers will count down from 60 seconds till midnight where a bright display of color and light will wish all “Happy New Year!” in over a dozen different languages.

Where to watch the New Year’s Eve Countdown in Los Angeles

Due to recent Covid restrictions, the Santa Monica Pier will be closed overnight starting at 10 PM including December 31st, New Year’s Eve. To see the lights of the Pacific Wheel, you can join the live stream on Pacific Park’s YouTube page where you can join in on the chat, or simply visit our live-streaming webcams at pacpark.com/live.

If you are celebrating at one of Downtown Santa Monica’s many delicious restaurants or staying in a beach front hotel by Santa Monica State Beach, you can see the lights of the Ferris wheel from Palisades Park, or the beaches south of the pier.

New Year’s Fireworks at the Beach

There are no fireworks displays or shows planned by the Santa Monica Pier or Beach. Although there have been many photos circulated of rockets showering sparks over the beach and pier, none of these displays have happened for New Year’s. In the past, Santa Monica High School and Marina del Rey have produced public fireworks show, but none of these happen on or near the Santa Monica Pier.

Parking and Directions for Santa Monica on New Year’s

Although the Pier will be closed overnight on New Year’s Eve 2022, many people still come to Downtown Santa Monica to ring in the new year at one of the many restaurants and hotels holding celebrations, so the streets and exits for Santa Monica can become very congested. Considering taking Metro to Santa Monica to avoid the car traffic and so you can party safely. If you are celebrating outside of Santa Monica, consider streaming Pacific Park’s 2022 New Year’s Eve Countdown at home on Pacific Park’s YouTube page.
