Halloween 2024 Ferris Wheel Lighting at Santa Monica Pier
Published on October 29, 2024
We’ve got Halloween Ferris wheel lighting at the Santa Monica Pier! The Pacific Wheel will be lit orange and purple from Friday, October 27 to Thursday, November 2.
Pacific Park will once again delight visitors to the Santa Monica Pier with a spook-tastic Halloween-themed light program on the Pacific Wheel. Furthermore, this year’s light program has ghouls, vampires, and brightly colored sugar skulls for Día de los Muertos.
Celebrating Halloween at the Santa Monica Pier
Come dressed in your costume and celebrate in Santa Monica style! Enjoy the spooky sunset, the scary skyline, and the screams of joy coming from the petrifying Pacific Park on the Pier. Also, don’t forget our arcade games and delicious treats from Snackville.
Celebrating Día de los Muertos at the Santa Monica Pier
For the fourth year in a row, Santa Monica Pier is paying tribute to the cultural tradition of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Accordingly, this two-day public art installation takes place November 1-2, 2024. It honors people, places, and ideas that are important to Santa Monicans. It’s also free and family friendly!
Presented in partnership with Northgate Market, Cirque du Soleil KOOZA, and Mariasol, Santa Monica Pier’s Día de los Muertos Celebration is located inside the Merry Go-Round building. We invite Pier-goers to contribute to the community altar and view the altars made by local artists Sylvia Sanchez and Yolanda Medina.

Pacific Park regularly programs the Ferris wheel to display themed light designs for holidays and special occasions. We installed the Pacific Wheel’s state-of-the-art lighting package in 2016. And, it can display over 1.6 million different colors and animate patterns and icons at 24 frames per second. In addition, the energy efficient LEDs on the face of the Ferris wheel are powered by solar arrays inside Pacific Park. With light programs are curated and designed by Pacific Park staff, each design is manually animated. As a result, some designs can take hours of programming. The aim is to provide fun, high-energy, and sometimes whimsical designs to entertain guests on the Santa Monica Pier and surrounding beaches.
