Gearing up for a day in Santa Monica, whether at Santa Monica Pier, the vast, sandy beaches, or the many shops and restaurants nearby, is a snap if you’re already set up at a beachside hotel. But what do you do if you’re coming right from LAX airport, you’re only in Santa Monica for the day, or you just want to see the sights before checking in at your hotel? You’ll need somewhere to store your luggage.

Can You Store Luggage at the Pier?

Unfortunately, space is at a premium along the boardwalk. There are no luggage lockers or storage locations anywhere along the Pier or by the beach. However, there are several option in Downtown Santa Monica.

Storage and Lockers in Santa Monica: Where to Leave Your Luggage

Walk-in Options: No Reservation Required

The Bike Center
Address: 1555 2nd Street

The Bike Center is a popular bike shop in Santa Monica that lets you rent bikes for two hours, a half day, a full day, or multiple days. It’s also a convenient place to store your luggage. The Bike Center offers luggage valet for the day, but it offers overnight luggage service as well — which can be convenient if you’re planning to hop on and off buses around Santa Monica, soak up the sun at the beach, and then have a blast at Pacific Park well into the evening hours.

Pricing for daytime luggage storage is set to $10 per item. According to their policy, you’ll need to pick up your luggage before closing time. If you miss closing time, you’ll end up paying their overnight price, which is $15 per item per day, so make sure you get there before they close. The Bike Center is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week.

If you’d like to rent a bike — which is a great way to see even more of the area — you’ll get a discount on luggage valet pricing.

Other Options: Online Booking

If you’re on a budget, want more flexibility, like planning ahead, or just love booking online, you can also check out luggage network sites for storage options. A luggage site will have partnerships with a variety of hotels, cafes, and local businesses where you can leave your luggage while exploring Santa Monica and the surrounding area.

The pricing and requirements vary from site to site, but they generally include a flat daily rate, luggage insurance, security seal, easy booking, and easy cancellation.

Stasher

When you book with Stasher you’ll pay $6 per item for the first day and $5 for any day beyond that. Each bag is also insured for up to $1,000.

Vertoe

At Vertoe, you can expect to pay a daily max of $5.95 for each item you store. Your luggage fee will include up to $5,000 in insurance coverage. If you store your luggage for a week, you’ll receive a 15 percent discount off the final total. Storing your luggage for a month gives you 30 percent off the total.

LuggageHero

This site lets you book by the hour — perfect for little excursions. You’ll pay $1 per item per hour plus a $2 handling fee, but you won’t pay more than $8 per item for the day (plus the $2 handling fee for a total of $10). LuggageHero also offers up to $3,000 in luggage insurance and a volume discount for storing more than 10 bags.

The next time you head out to enjoy Santa Monica Pier or Pacific Park, consider storing your luggage for hands-free fun in the sun.
