Published on November 5, 2024

Pacific Park celebrates the newest K-Pop sensation SEVENTEEN with special Ferris wheel lighting at the Santa Monica Pier. On Friday, November 8, we’ll be lighting the Pacific Wheel in vibrant green and pink.

The popular South Korean boy band is performing in LA on the 9th and 10th of November. These shows conclude the U.S. leg of the huge SEVENTEEN world tour. Consequently, you can see the Santa Monica Pier Ferris wheel lit up on November 8 to celebrate!

And get excited: special events are planned. As part of the group’s ‘SEVENTEEN The City Los Angeles’ project, fans can experience SEVENTEEN’s music and culture through various events. This includes fan events, pop-up stores, and food and beverage collaboration programs running from the 7th to the 11th of November.

Plus, as part of the five-day celebration, major LA landmarks will be lit up with SEVENTEEN’s theme and colors. And this, of course, includes our world-famous Pacific Wheel.

Fans can enjoy lights shaped like SEVENTEEN’s logo and take photos with a large doll modeled after SEVENTEEN’s official light stick, ‘Bongbongie.’ Pacific Park has partnered with South Korean entertainment company Hybe to present this exciting celebration.

Happily, you can watch this special lighting event from dusk until 11:35 PM on Friday, November 8. And if you can’t make it, enjoy watching the light program online at www.pacpark.com/live.

More about SEVENTEEN

SEVENTEEN (SVT) is a South Korean boy band with thirteen members. The act has won a large audience since its debut and has grown into an internationally recognized K-pop group with signature music and performances.

The group debuted on May 26, 2015, with the EP 17 Carat, which became the longest-charting K-pop album of the year in the US.  Seventeen has released four studio albums, twelve EPs, and three reissues.

Seventeen is considered a “self-producing” idol group, with the members involved in songwriting, music production, and choreographing, among other aspects of their music and performances. They perform as one group and are divided into three units—hip-hop, vocal, and performance—each with a different area of specialization. This year, Seventeen made history as the first K-pop band to ever perform at Glastonbury Festival. No wonder there’s a SEVENTEEN Ferris Wheel Lighting at Santa Monica Pier.

More about the SEVENTEEN Pacific Wheel Light Show

Pacific Park regularly programs the Ferris wheel to display seasonal programing and themed light designs for holidays and special occasions. We installed the Pacific Wheel’s state-of-the-art lighting package in 2016.It can display over 1.6 million different colors and animate patterns and icons in 24 frames per second.

Solar arrays inside Pacific Park power the energy-efficient LEDs on the face of the Ferris wheel. Pacific Park staff  curate and designe the light programs. Because each design is manually animated, some designs can take hours of programming. The aim is to provide fun, high-energy, and sometimes whimsical designs to entertain guests on the Santa Monica Pier and surrounding beaches.
