Santa Monica stays fit with outdoor fitness and wellness classes

In these uncertain and stressful times during the COVID-19 pandemic, now is more important than ever to take care of your mental health and physical well being. Long known as one of the leading cities in the health and wellness industry, Santa Monica has learned to adapt to the current policies and restrictions placed on local businesses including closure of indoor gyms and restaurants. Luckily, thanks to its beach-side location and Southern California’s warm winters, most businesses are allowed to temporarily move their operations to the socially-distanced outdoors.

Outdoor fitness studios in Santa Monica

You can take a solo run north on along the pristine coastline or head south on the Marvin Braude Bike Trail past Venice, Dockweiler, Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach all the way down to Torrance when you’re craving the great outdoors, but sometimes you need the energy and motivation of a fitness class and instructor to take your workout to the next level.

Here are three Santa Monica workout studios where you can exercise safely outdoors this fall and winter:

The Santa Monica Pier

The Santa Monica Pier is now hosting local studios’ fitness classes on the pier parking deck on most weekdays. Classes at this iconic location range from yoga to boxing to barre.  Check their schedule, updated weekly, to see which class best suites you. You must book your spot ahead of time and sign up directly through the providing studio. Prices to attend vary, but is free for studios hosting. Looking for something even more out-of-the-box? Try taking a class at the New York Trapeze School located on the Santa Monica Pier.

Your Space Studio

Downtown Santa Monica created a new outdoor space for studios to utilize on the corner of Arizona and 5th St. Repeat businesses that use the space for classes are Az I Am, Coreology, and Hot8 Yoga. Similar to the Pier, attendee’s must sign up ahead of time through the individual studio.

Burn Fitness on the Third Street Promenade

Burn Fitness is a gym located on the Third Street Promenade that didn’t have to modify much to reopen to the public this past summer. It has 8,500 square feet of outdoor workout space available for its members and transformed its open-air roof top to be a full-health club experience. With 360-degree views of Santa Monica and beyond, members can do both cardio and strength training or sign up for instructor-led classes while enjoying the fresh air and views.
