From eerie to scary, discover Los Angeles’ favorite family-friendly Halloween activities this spooky season

When you’re looking for things to do over Halloween,  it can be hard to find a balance between frightening fun and too intense—especially for families and kids. For that reason we’ve created a list of LA’s best family-friendly Halloween activities across Los Angeles and Westside LA. Enjoy!

Night of the Jack

This isn’t your grandmother’s pumpkin patch. A magical pumpkin trail with illuminated jack‑o‑lantern displays and light installations, Night of the Jack has Halloween thrills for the whole family.

Featuring over 30 different environments, Night of the Jack is where technology and scares collide. Projection mapping turns ordinary buildings into towering, spectacular structures and spooky apparitions. And if you’re in need of refreshment throughout the mile-long trail, Los Angeles’ top food trucks and a ‘Spookeasy’ bar will provide.

Young families can join the ‘Almost Dark Trail’ as the sun sets and the lights begin to glow. Alternatively, come for the full nighttime—read, more chilling—experience. With its eerie atmosphere, this Halloween activity is perfect for families and thrill-seekers alike.

Los Angeles Haunted Hayride

It’s always Halloween in Midnight Falls, the creepy fictional town in where a witch has summoned the undead.

Now in its 17th year, the Haunted Hayride features a tractor-pulled hayride, menacing mazes, scare zones, themed entertainment and terrifying treats. Basically, it’s Halloween fun mixed with frights!  New events this year include a manor party hosted by star Janelle Monae and the chance to blast zombies with water-gel shooters.

Located in Griffith Park, Los Angeles, Haunted Hayride runs from September 19 to November 2, 2025. Tickets start at around $40 – there are also “FastPass” or skip‑the‑line options available. But, family fun-seekers be warned: Haunted Hayride may be overwhelming for young children.

The Funhouse at Pacific Park

At the iconic Pacific Park’s new Funhouse, a sinister magic is afoot. With a coin-operated fortune teller and a dessert-wielding clown, the Funhouse takes visitors on a  dizzying adventure—one that could land them in Sprinkles the Clown’s ice cream truck freezer. Will guests make it out unscathed, or will they be lost in this labyrinth of curiosities for another 100 years?

The 2,800-square-foot Funhouse at Pacific Park includes nine mysterious rooms which disorient and entertain with optical illusions and sinister sounds. In other words, it’s a spooky smorgasboard for the senses! And afterward, you can round out your night with thrills and spills on Pacific Park’s famous West Coaster rollercoaster. How’s that for scary.

Pacific Park is an historic amusement park located on the Santa Monica Pier. Hours change seasonally and can be found here.

Westchester Family YMCA — Halloween Spooktacular

Looking for something free and easy? In that case, Westchester YMCA’s annual Halloween Spooktacular event might fit the bill. This is a free, carnival-style event with games, snacks, a costume parade, food trucks, crafts, a haunted walk-through and so much besides. What’s more, these fun activities are absolutely free and open to members and non-members—you just need to register ahead of time.

Spooktacular 2025 is located at Westchester Family YMCA, October 24, 2025 from 6 to 9pm.

Marina Spooktacular at Burton Chace Park

With activities for all ages and scare levels, the two-day Marina Spooktacular will certainly meet your family-friendly holiday needs.

Enjoy ‘Halloween by the harbor’ with face painting, arts and crafts, carnival games, giant inflatables, a fun house obstacle and a treasure hunt. While there are a few scary zones for the bigger kids, they’re less so earlier in the evening. And the best part? This event is totally free.

Marina Spooktacular is happening on October 25 and 26 from 4 to 10pm. Burton Chace Park is located at 13650 Mindanao Way, Marina del Rey.

Happy Halloween!

In conclusion, these are some of LA’s best family-friendly Halloween activities to discover this spooky season. We hope you get to scratch that seasonal itch and enjoy all the wonderful events Los Angeles has to offer over fall.
