Pacific Wheel Lit for Wear Red Day

Published on January 29, 2025

Pacific Park will light up the Santa Monica Pier Ferris wheel in red on Friday, February 7 in recognition of Wear Red Day.

Pacific Wheel Lit for Wear Red Day. What is it?

Every year, on the first Friday of February, the American Heart Association holds National Wear Red Day. By wearing red clothing, you’ll help raise awareness of heart disease, which is Los Angeles’—and America’s—leading cause of death. So, join in and get inspired to adopt healthier habits and fight this silent killer.

Pacific Park will join other landmarks in support of Wear Red Day. Accordingly, Los Angeles City Hall, Catalina Island Casino and the Sixth Street Bridge are just a few of the many landmarks lighting up in red for the occasion.

Come and enjoy this special lighting event on the evening of Friday, February 2. You can see the Ferris wheel lights from dusk until 11:35 PM each evening. Or, watch the light program online at pacpark.com/live.

Heart Disease and Women

Did you know that heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the leading cause of death in women? They claim more lives than all cancers combined. Additionally, women experience unique life stages that increase their risk of developing CVD over their lifetime.

Men are not in the clear either. Cardiovascular disease is also the leading cause of death for men. But the good news is that most cardiovascular diseases can be prevented with awareness, education and positive lifestyle changes. Let’s get to it!

Special Lighting of the Pacific Wheel

Pacific Park regularly programs the Ferris wheel to display seasonal programing and themed light designs for holidays and special occasions. We installed the Pacific Wheel’s state-of-the-art lighting package in 2016.It can display over 1.6 million different colors and animate patterns and icons in 24 frames per second.

Solar arrays inside Pacific Park power the energy-efficient LEDs on the face of the Ferris wheel. Pacific Park staff  curate and designe the light programs. Because each design is manually animated, some designs can take hours of programming. The aim is to provide fun, high-energy, and sometimes whimsical designs to entertain guests on the Santa Monica Pier and surrounding beaches.
