Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier has been a top-pick for locations scouts and site managers for decades and 2021 was no exception. The Pier has appeared in dozens of TV shows, feature films, music videos and advertising campaigns in the last 12 months. As we reflect on the wild and crazy ride that was 2021, we have listed the top three productions that filmed at the Santa Monica Pier last year.
Paris in Love
The reality TV series took over the pier for one night in November to film Paris and Carter Reum’s wedding reception that took place inside Pacific Park. Paris’s family and friends, lit in neon and pink, partied the night away as dozens of TV crew members recorded the highlights and fun. The newlyweds shared a loving moment high atop the Pier on the world-famous Pacific Wheel, guests tried their best to win exclusive Paris merch, and DJ Diplo provided the soundtrack to the party at the Pier. Paris in Love streams on Peacock.
Starbucks’ Strawberry Funnel Cake Frappuccino
Following the grand opening of the much-awaited Starbucks location on Ocean Front Walk behind the Santa Monica Pier, the Seattle-based coffee power-house announced a new, seasonal Frappuccino flavor themed to our most-loved treat, the Funnel Cake. The ad, which aired nation-wide during the summer of 2021, featured images of the park and pier symbolizing the sunny, fun-filled afternoons you can have by the beach enjoying a tasty snack.
Disney+ Streaming Day drone show
Filmed without announcements, Disney+ arranged for a dazzling light show of 500 tiny drones outlining characters and depicting themes from some of the streaming platforms most celebrated programs. The light program was filmed and posted to the company’s YouTube page to celebrate National Streaming Day. The unique, night time light show was picked up in the news nation wide showing Disney characters like Baby Yoda from The Mandalorian outlined in points of light high above the sparkling lights of Pacific Park.
Visitors to the pier shouldn’t be surprised to see Hollywood productions being filmed at the Pier and beach, and may even end up in the back ground! Pacific Park is one of the most filmed amusement parks in the world and has been featured in over a thousand movies, music videos, commercials, and TV shows. The amusement park works with productions to minimize the impact these filming events have on pier guests, encouraging crews to schedule their production earlier in the morning or late at night when the pier is closed.
